Curriculum Vitae


Juschka Weigel starts her studies of dance at Colombo Dance School, in Zürich. After she finished successfully her three-year course, she received a six-month scholarship for Merce Cunningham School, in New York, accomplishing her basic dance education. After this period she received another scholarship for the Academy of Art, in Solo (Indonesia).
Back in Germany she co-founds the dance company Verwandlungsamt, under the direction of Butoh master Anzu Furukawa. At the same time she starts to learn the movement method Dharma Body Work (DBW), directed by Mikki Bleidner and Peter Laros.
Since 1999 she studies Indian traditional music with master Pandit Sankha Chatterjee.
After investigating the synergy between dance, butoh and body work with Josef Kiss (1997-2000), they release their first work in collaboration, ‘How is this for a start to your day?’, a dance solo first performed in the 5th International Festival for Solo Dance, in Stuttgart, where she received the 2nd Prize of Choreography and the Special Prize of the Public.
With this Solo piece Juschka Weigel got the 1st Prize at the 7 MASDANZA, International Dance Festival in Maspalomas, Canary Islands (Spain), in 2002.
During this period she creates successful individual and collective choreographies for the stage, and for film and multimedia productions as well. She also works with different choreographers in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Austria and Sweden.
The Solo Pieces ‘Up Close and Personal’ and ‘Im Imperfect’ where first performed during the summer 2002.
In September 2002 she dances under the direction of choreographer Virpi Phankinen, in the piece ‘Ophir Chasma’, at the Dansens Hus, Stockholm. Back in Berlin, in October 2002 she continues creating and choreographing her own pieces. Her Solo choreography, ‘Grace under presure’, with the support of DBW, was first released in Berlin, October 2002.
‘It´s spooky’, her first long piece, is also presented in Germany, Spain and Southamerica in the end of 2002.






After this, she creates with choreographer and dancer Simone Willeit her group piece, ‘Ungemein’, which gets the 1st Prize of Group Choreography in 8 MASDANZA International Festival 2003. In summer and autumn 2003 the company tours around Spain and Portugal.
In June/July 2003 she tours around Spain with the pieces ‘Up Close and Personal’, ‘Grace under pressure’ and ‘How is this for a start to your day?’, successfully performed in cities as Barcelona, Sevilla, Santiago de Compostela and Granada.
From November 2003 until February 2004 she tours around South America and works as ‘Dancer in Residence’ in Santiago de Chile, preparing the piece ‘Life is too short to dance with an ugly man?’. This piece has been first released in Teatro Galán (Santiago de Compostela) and performed in different Dance Festivals in Berlin, Barcelona, Sevilla, Rio de Janeiro, London, etc.
In summer 2004 she joins La Espiral Danza (Sevilla) as a choreographic assistant and dancer for the piece ‘Sobre el peso de la luz’.
After this she presents the work in cooperation with the musician Martin Hug and the writer Anna Titus: ‘Líneas Blancas’, in Barcelona, October 2004.
The première of her solo work, ‘frequency-I’ (2005) takes place at En Pé de Pedra International Dance Festival (Santiago de Compostela)
As a choreographer and dancer she works with Cap a Pie Tanz Company in the piece ‘King Salomo (or how to fry small fishes)’, in co-production with ITÁLICA’05 INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL (Sevilla).
Her last solo piece, ‘frequency – b’, was presented in Theater im Depot, Dortmund, in March 2006.
At the moment she tours around Europe with her choreographies, and developing as a choreographer and teacher in Germany and Spain.
